"My Second Favorite Recipe"

I make this every spring. It just isn't spring at my

home without it. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Rhubarb Bread

(delicious)

(Read all directions before you begin. This recipe puts the topping on the bottom before baking.)

Put into mixing bowl:

1 1/2 cups light brown sugar

2/3 cup of olive oil (or 1/3 butter and 1/3 olive oil)

1 egg

1 tsp each..salt..soda and vanilla

Stir well then add one cup butter milk or sour cream...

Stir Well...add 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Stir until mixed well.

Add 1 1/2 cups of diced rhubarb (fresh)

1/2 cups chopped nuts (optional)

Stir.

Grease two glass bread pans well...(you can use metal if you prefer)

Mix 1/2 cups white sugar and 1 TBLSP butter in small glass bowl and sprinkle into the bottom of the greased glass bread pans...then...Pour in the rhubarb batter evenly ...should make two loaves.Bake at: 325º for one hour for glass pans....350º if you use metal pans. Bake on middle shelf in oven.

Metal pans may bake more quickly so check after 50 minutes...knife inserted in middle should come out clean.

Let pans cool for five minutes before inverting on plate or foil.

I use the thin ruby red rhubarb.

HE DID WHAT???

I think I was about six when this happened.

My brother, Butchie, was four.

I played hard and went to sleep early, my little brother, hated to

go to bed but knew he had to mind, so he would come into

my room and mess with my stuff after I was asleep.

I had a necklace made from beads. After he broke it and

the beads scattered all around, he picked one up and

Don't ask me why, Put one in my ear. I woke up, felt

something in my ear, tried to take it out and pushed it in further.

My ear really started to hurt. I started to cry.

Bad boy Butchie ran to his own room.

My parents, in the bedroom

down the hall,

had just gotten to sleep, heard me and came into my room.

By this time my ear was really hurting. My Dad asked, "What's

wrong, Kesti?" I said, "Butchie put a bead in my ear."

He said, He did what? I repeated what I had just said.

I was blubbering and he had heard,

"Butchie Peed in my ear" He went into my brother's room

Picked him up and began spanking him. By this time my Mom

had figured out what I had said by looking into my ear.

She then said, "Al, stop spanking Butch and get in here"

I could hear my brother crying.

My Mom called a doctor who was a friend and neighbor.

She woke him up. She thought maybe putting oil in my ear

might help her get it out. The doctor said, "Oh No, don't do that"

"Bring her here and I will take it out."

He lived a few blocks from us and had a small office in his home.

My parents were really worried as they could see what pain I

was in and I kept sobbing. The bead was really jammed in there.

I lay on the examining table and the doctor looked in. I heard him

whispering something to my Mom.

She said, "Yes, she is very well behaved."

I think the doctor told her I should have an anesthetic but that

would mean going to the hospital.

My Mom came over and said, "The doctor is going to take the

bead out now, Kesti, and you mustn't move your head no matter

how badly it hurts. It will just take a second.

I nodded that I understood and tried to stop sobbing.

When I stopped, the Doctor came over and my Mom seemed

to be holding me down as I couldn't see him.

In a moment, OH THE PAIN. I didn't dare move my head

but my leg came straight up and my foot kicked the doctor

in the face. He had the bead out by then and he laughed.

He said, "I wouldn't have let someone take a bead like that

out of my ear for a million dollars. Kesti is a very brave girl."

(like I had a choice?) haha.

Butchie stayed in his own room after that for some odd reason.

:)

"Night Owl"

When my sister's son, Jamers, was a year and a half old, she

asked me to come over and help her try to get him to

go to bed at bedtime. He had blonde hair and big brown eyes

and so cute you could hardly stand it.

I think that is why she couldn't scold him or discipline him

as she should have.

He was a good child, very active but nice. Never sassed

or had a tantrum. Just a good little boy.

He always wanted to stay awake until she went to bed and

would sometimes be awake after she went to sleep.

We were ready for the job. We planned our strategy.

We would take turns putting him in his crib and then visit.

We started at seven PM.

She didn't believe in spanking or raising your voice to children.

I did believe in spanking if you had to in order to achieve results, but I

didn't dare.

I put him to bed first. I told him a story, gave him water,

tucked him in, "Saying what a good boy he was, smiled at him

said, "Good night, Jamers". He smiled back at me and closed his eyes.

I was smiling as I sat down on the sofa, thinking I had already

solved her problem.

Two minutes later, Jamers was in the living room with us.

Re's turn was next. She picked him up saying, "No, you have to

go to bed now." She swooped him up and I could hear her

singing as she tucked him in.

OMG...this went on for two hours. I had been the last one to put

him in his crib. I could tell he was getting tired. He seem to relax

as I tucked him in. I tiredly smiled at him and said, "Good night, go

to sleep now, honey"

He rolled to his side as I left the room. Whew...

I sat down across from Re and gave her a look that said.

We did it!

Five minutes went by. We were quiet but estatic.

We didn't hear anything, we were too exhausted to talk.

Suddenly saw a little face Peeking

around the corner of the living room.

It was Jamers...his blonde hair all ruffled on top, big brown eyes

twinkling, like he too was in on the secret.

He smiled and whispered, "Hi"

We gave up.

To this day, he is a "Night Owl"

"Noise in the Night"

My oldest sister and her husband owned a rustic cabin deep in the

woods. She was staying there one night when her husband

went to get some bait for their morning fishing trip at a town

about twenty minutes from their cabin. She was reading her

favorite magazines. She was always interested in the paranormal.

He year old son was asleep in his crib. She was reading by lamp

light and the shadows were moving against the walls.

She was engrossed in her magazine.

Her husband had been gone about one half hour.

Suddenly she heard three loud bangs on the side of the cabin.

It sounded like a Giant with a club.

She stood up and then her legs melted under her and she went to the

floor. She was immobilized in terror. She was leaning on the chair,

but completely without the ability to get up. Her husband came

home and found her like that.

When he was able to get her to her feet and into a chair, she told him

what had happened. He checked on the baby and then went outside

and checked around the cabin with a flashlight. He didn't see one thing

out of order. He came back in. La was still white with fear.

They never did figure out what the noise was.

Has she stopped reading paranormal magazines?

NO.

(go figure)

"Never Assume ANYTHING!"

I always thought that I was a great cook and could cook anything.

I have made rice many times that I considered perfect.

NOT!

Last week I heard about the Black an Decker RICE cooker at

Walmart for only $20. My friend raved about it so much

that I thought, "I may as well waste $20 to see what

she is talking about.

OMG....I made five cups of Basmati rice in it.

I think that is the first time I knew what rice is

really supposed to taste like.

My husband and I looked at each other between bites.

He couldn't believe it either.

We relished every bite of it.

I had a little teriyaki sauce and garlic butter on mine.

I served these stir fry veggies with it.

They were the perfect combo.

(Great Value Sweet snap pea stir fry mix (15 ounces for $1.34) at Walmart)

The Rice cookers come in black or white.

They have several sizes.

I chose the 16 cup size.

I made the five cup recipe and it filled it up.

YUMMY!

See it here:

http://www.blackanddeckerappliances.com/product-138.html

I think I could become a vegetarian if I had this to eat

all the time.

Try it!

"Health Problems?"

My Aunt Martha called me three weeks ago. She said she was

feeling so bad she thought she was dying. I had helped her

before with massages and herbs.

I hadn't seen her for a long time and assumed she was doing okay.

When I saw her, I was shocked. Her face was twisted up

as she was in so much pain. She looked old and tired.

I asked her if she wanted a massage. She said that every place

on her body hurt so she didn't think so. I had her sit on a

chair and started with her shoulders. She flinched at my lightest

touch.

I sat down and asked her about her diet, her allergies, if she had

fallen down, what vitamins she was taking, if she had been sick

recently, etc;

None of it led me to believe that she could be in so much pain.

She said her stomach was okay. Her bowels were not very

regular tho. I made her some tea to help with that problem.

She was so tired by then, she wanted to lie down.

I helped her to her bedroom. Then I saw the culprit.

She had been sleeping on a twin bed for 22 years.

It sagged in the middle like a sway back horse.

She had a newer sofa, so I made a bed for her on that.

I told her I was going shopping and would be right back.

I went out and bought her a full size bed with a very firm

mattress and box spring. It took me quite awhile to talk them

into delivering it that day.

I told them it was and emergency and it was!!

I went back to Martha's house and got her room ready for her new bed.

She had fallen asleep on the sofa.

She woke up when the delivery guys came.

She looked surprised and said,

Kesti, what have you done?

I said, I have purchased the solution to your problems.

After they left, I made up the bed.

(I had bought her new bed linens too)

I said, "Okay, Lie down and try this."

She smiled and laid down on the firm mattress.

"Oh, this feels good", she said.

I told her to stay there and rest and I would lock the house

when I left.

She called me the next day and said she was feeling much,

much better.

A week later she said she was a whole new person.

She said she hadn't felt that good in years.

She insisted on paying me for everything.

****

If anyone who is over ten is sleeping on a twin bed,

my advice is...GET RID OF IT!

It does not have the support that you need for your body.

Most are made for little children and i am wondering if

all children shouldn't at least have a firm full size bed.

When you think of all the nerve endings in your spine and it

isn't supported properly for all of the hours you sleep!

Good Grief!

You need lots of room to stretch out and not worry about falling

out of bed.

Even before any bed starts to sag, it is time for a new one!

Martha is now doing all the things she used to do.

All that pain and worry because of a sagging bed.

Check with your parents and see what kind of bed they

are sleeping on. It could save them a lot of pain and expensive

medical bills and drugs.

"ALWAYS BACK IN"

MY sister had to run to the store to get a few things.

She told her husband she was going so he was in charge

of watching the two children while she was gone.

She started up the car, put it in reverse to back up.

She was about to put her foot on the gas when she heard

a strange sound. She put her foot back on the brake

and listened. It was her two year old son, behind the car

and she had heard his heavy breathing from running

the distance from the house to give her a kiss goodbye.

He said, "Mommy, Mommy, I want a kiss."

Her heart stopped...she turned off the car.

She looked into his happy, smiling face and hugged him.

She had come that close to backing over her little boy.

She carried him into the house, then went to her room

and silently bawled for a half hour. She didn't drive

again for six months.

I have backed into my driveway ever since I heard about what happened.

Children are so fast. They have their little ideas and you never know

what they might do.

Backing in when you are able to scan the yard and watch is safer

and also better when you are leaving home as you can see

who is coming down the road like children on bikes and skateboards.

My sister will never forget her close call.

"Things Men Need to Know!"

Men need to know that the "look" never gets old to their mates.

That special smile never does either.

Turn off the game and let her know she is more important.

Never hesitate for even a split second to say

"No," when she asks if any clothing makes her look fat.

If she feeds you food with her hand, she is flirting.

Ask her to go for a romantic drive often.

Tell her she is "hot"

Make her remember she is a woman first

Help with the dishes with a smile.

When she is tired give her a back rub.

Never do any of the above with a sex motive in mind.

She will know.

Never contradict her in company's presence.

(or ever if you are smart)

When she phones you, be happy that she called.

If you are busy, be tactful.

When she has had an especially hard day

Take the family out for dinner.

Surprise her with little gifts.

Always remembering the best gifts are respect, faithfulness,

Love, help and kindness.

Men, if you follow these suggestions, you will be a very, very, happy man.

"Hornet Ball"

My sisters son Michael was playing in the field across from her

Lake shore home one nice summer day. He was seven. She

could see him from her back door and told him not to get

out of sight of the house.

She kept checking on him. She looked out and saw him running

back to the house as fast as he could go and seemed to

be jumping and running at the same time.

She held the door open and saw why.

Hornets were all over him and chasing him.

My Mom was visiting her at the time.

My sister grabbed him and took him into the bedroom and

stripped him down. She threw his clothing into the hall

and shut the door. She began killing the few hornets

that had followed her into the room.

Mom was busy killing the ones that got in the house with him.

Michael was crying.

My sister called the doctor, told him this was the

first time he had ever been stung and asked what to do

if he was allergic to stings. The doctor said, "If he

was allergic, he would be dead by now"

After she hung up, she counted the stings. He had 85.

She was softly saying a prayer of thanks that

Michael wasn't allergic.

When he calmed down, he told her he had seen a ball

on a Sumac bush. He picked it and then kicked it.

Oh noooo, no wonder the hornets were after him.

Mom said she had killed all of the hornets so my sister

and Michael came into the living room.

Fifty hornets had gotten into the house, so it was a good

thing my sister rushed him into the bedroom and shut the door.

My Mom never went anywhere with out "Watkins Anti Pain oil"

(I just looked it up and I think it is called red liniment now)

She poured it into her hands and rubbed it swiftly on all of

Michael's stings. He screamed. In a few minutes after

the alcohol evaporated he calmed down. The stings healed

very rapidly and none became infected.

Michael watched carefully for any more "balls" in the Sumac

after that experience.

~TMJ~

I ran across this interesting link on TMJ.

http://www.tmjheadneckpain.com/opinionandcritique.html

He thinks it may be responsible for a lot of pain in the entire body.

I believe it as my sister had it one time and a young chiropractor

diagnosed her with having MS.

I told her that was nonsense and asked her if she wanted me to

show her what I did when I had it. She agreed.

I told her to press her hand against her ear on the side where the jaw pain was.

OPEN HAND AND STEADY PUSH TOWARDS HEAD

Then open her mouth wide.

She did it and heard a loud crack.

In seconds all her pain and dizziness was gone.

The body is all connected and who knows what one little thing

can make it go awry.

Interesting theory to say the least.

"The Crocus Run"

In the springtime, I knew where all of the crocus grew in the woods nearby.

I was always excited to see them.

I would pick about eight of them and run home as fast as I could

to present them to my Mom.

By the time I got there, my warm little hand had made them all droop

down like they were dead.

My Mom always put them in a glass of cold water and like magic

They would stand up and open like a new day was born.

Moms are nice.

"Hold the Spark!"

My Great Grampa had an old Model T car in the barn.

I don't think he was supposed to drive it.

When I was visiting he would ask me to walk to

the barn with him.

He would have me sit behind the wheel and I did

what he said.

My feet couldn't reach any pedals.

He would get the crank and tell me to hold the spark.

The spark was a funny little metal thingy.

He would crank that old car and it would kick and send

him flying about five feet from the car.

He would holler, "Give it some spark, Kesti,

Give it some spark!"

I would move the little lever and the motor would go faster.

Then I would put one foot on the brake as I slid off the seat.

It was scary. He would get up and take over the wheel.

I was relieved as we put putted around the driveway close to the barn.

I was sure that mean old crank would kill him someday.

My Mom said he died of natural causes, so maybe it did.

"Whoa Bessie"

I read that story to my husband and he said they

had a similar story in his family.

His Great Grampa didn't want to even learn to drive a car,

but his grown son bought one and insisted on

teaching him to drive.

(His Grampa had driven horses and wagons

all of his life)

He had just learned to start it and steer it. He knew there was

a brake pedal.

As the car gained speed, he forgot everything they told him.

As he rammed into the storage shed, you could

see him pulling back on the steering wheel and hear him

hollering, "Whoa Bessie, WHOA!" He stopped when he

crashed into the back of the shed.

He never did learn or want to learn to drive.

Ha ha..that is funny.

"Parade of the Turtles"

Our summer farm had an old manure pile that had been

"working" for years. It was solid black dirt by the time

my parents bought the place.

Every year the turtles would treck up the steep hill from

the lake and they all found a place in the old manure pile

to lay their eggs.

My brother and sister and I would watch every day for the hatching.

It seemed to take forever.

Once the eggs started to hatch it was the most interesting

day of the year. Hundreds and hundreds of little baby

turtles hatched and promptly headed for the lake.

How did they know where it was?

Well, They all knew.

They would race down the big hill to find their place in

the big spring fed lake.

I love nature.

Miracles happening every second!

"Books on the Head"

My Mom was determined that all six of us had great posture.

It worked for four out of six.

When she would catch us slumping she would say.

"Ok, get a book!:

Then we would have to walk balancing

a book on our head. I had a flat head on top so it was easier for me,

I think. We had to walk for five minutes without the book falling off.

I always hold my head high to this day.

When young girls develop, they sometimes slump if they are

embarrassed when people tease them.

That is a shame because it may ruin their posture.

When women get old and they are bent over so much

that they look like a question mark, I always wonder if

is connected to early habits of poor posture.

"Soft as a Kitten"

I recently had some company who stayed for a few days.

We were talking about skin lotions as I had noticed how soft

and blemish free both of them looked. They said they only

used Curel healing lotion.

Since I have fragrance allergies I wasn't too interested until they

said it had no fragrance.

That really got my attention. I bought some after they left and tried it.

Oh My! It is unbelievable. It doesn't leave you with that "clogged"

feeling like so many lotions do.

I will write what the big 20 fluid ounce bottle says on the front.

Curel Ultra Healing. Intensive Moisture lotion for extra dry skin

with extra strength skin hydrators.

http://www.curel.com/Products/Index.asp

The large size was only $8.00 at Wal-Mart.

Even tho this one didn't say fragrance free, I found no fragrance smell in it.

Their skin looked so blemish free and pure white, (no makeup)

that I decided to buy it right away.

This sounds like a commercial, but it is just my own opinion

and I have no connections with the company.

I may try the one with honey, vanilla and shea butter next.

"Coasting"

My Parents told me a story about how my Grampa

used to "coast" down a big hill during the depression

to save on gas. I think gas was about 19 cents a gallon.

The hill was about four city blocks long and didn't have any

other roads joining it until you were near the bottom.

As soon as he would leave the top of the hill, he would

push in the clutch and down he would go. When he was near

the bottom he would let his foot off of the clutch and the

car would lurch and usually back fire and he would be

back using gas again.

That sounds like fun. My Mom said it was dangerous

as you didn't have control of the car like you should.

I don't really understand that, but I believe her.

It must have been fun tho, as those were supposed to be,

"Learn This Lesson"

Attention Women: If your husband is geared up for a project in the basement,

house, yard, garage, etc; DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, put any blocks

in his path. Such as, "Can't we go shopping first?"

or "I thought we were going to the park"

You don't want to deal with the aftershock.

When a man is in "work mode", step aside, quietly provide

cold drinks for him and feed him if and when he is hungry.

I know, I know, when he interrupts your plans, you drop

everything and do what he wants.

It is a one way deal.

It is like gravity, don't mess with it.

Words of wisdom....You are welcome.

"Guilty or Not Guilty...What is the Answer?"

We all have experienced it. Guilt..that ugly Gnome.

It is an emotion that keeps on giving...giving all bad things.

It makes you lie, lose sleep, act out, lose your temper and worst of all

brings you more guilt.

The only cure for guilt is fess. Fess up, start over, Hope you are loved enough so those you

care about forgive and forget.

They have guilt of their own, most likely, so they will admire your courage.

I still feel guilty about pushing a little fat neighbor boy into the swimming pool.

My Mom made me apologize and he said he forgave me, but I still feel bad when I think about it. I was only six.

That should make you see how dangerous it is to let guilt get a choke hold on you.

Even tho I tried to make amends, it still nudges me once in awhile.

That is what makes us human, I guess.

Just don't let it become an infection because you are trying to hide it forever

"There is a new day tomorrow"....My Mom always comforted me with that thought.

` TRY THIS`

Want a new delicious taste? Buy a carrot cake and a German Chocolate cake. Take a tiny piece of each one and eat them together. They should layer them , one of each and call it Carochoclatte Cake. YUM!!!

I accidentally discovered this because there was just a tiny slice of chocolate cake left and a new carrot cake in the fridge. I should get paid for this idea. :)

"Death before Dying"

A good idea, actually

To separate from illusions

That anyone cared.

To let go gently

So to speak.

In your mind.

To know

That nothing can hurt you

More than you have already

Been hurt.

That you are unafraid to go

Forth into the unknown.

That the future holds, perhaps,

Another illusion

Of Heaven or hell.

And what you enjoy or suffer there

Will be what you bring onto yourself.

Attention!

I have had over ONE MILLION visitors to this, My AOL Site in the last nine years.

The counter kept reverting back to zero, but I kept my own records each week.

I have now attached my two sites together under one counter starting at 2000.

I started the new counter on March 15, 2007.

I hope I will not have any more trouble with counters.

Sincerely,

Kesti
