'The Tablespoon Diet'

If you were curious enough to visit this page ..I hope you will read what I have to say before throwing up your hands and saying...'I could never do that'!

First let me tell you how this idea came to be. I was looking up information on the net for someone who was considering "by-pass" surgery to lose weight. Oh My Word!..I have never felt so awful and sad as I read what they go through with that surgery and what they go through for years afterwards.

It is not an easy thing to undertake. I thought to myself...Why couldn't they train themselves in some way to eat those tiny meals instead of having that dangerous surgery and still have to eat those tiny amounts? I decided to experiment. I thought they could only eat one tablespoon at a time and later found out it was three tablespoons but by then I had been on the diet for three days and all was going well.

My plan was to eat anything I wanted each hour but to limit whatever it was to one tablespoon. To my surprise I felt good..no headaches..no cravings...no feeling of deprivation...weakness...hunger pangs...exhaustion...any of the things commonly associated with dieting.

I was harsh on myself because if I got busy and forgot to eat I didn't double up on the tablespoons. I didn't count the hours I slept either but if you wake up...eat a tablespoon of something if you wish.

It didn't take long before I gave up anything sweet and concentrated on the nutritious stuff. I looked up each calorie and wrote down what each tablespoon contained and what time I ate it..I kept a running Mini journal on each bit of food. This taught me just how calorie packed food can be. When I thought of how many yummy tablespoons of food I could have instead of the calories in one can of soda...I took a new look at the waste of drinking them...ever!

I also became creative...I made a cup of soup out of my tablespoon of food. (chicken dressing with tiny slice of tomato added to boiling water) You eat more slowly and savor each bite. One day when I had guests I looked at their full plates and thought to myself...I could live a week on one plate of food! Haha.

I averaged 35 to 50 calories per tablespoon. The time flew by and I forgot to eat for many hours during the five days. On two days I actually felt like I didn't need to eat.

Wonder what caused that?

At the end of the first day...I totalled up my calorie intake..only 347 calories. Amazing!

After my five day "learning period" I began to increase my intake ...now concentrating on the calorie count. I set the count to not over 700 calories a day. I needed to crunch something...so I bought rye crisp. I learned that two tablespoons of anything would satisfy hunger. The urge to eat more passes in fifteen short minutes. Set a timer and see for yourself.

Here is a list of some of the foods I ate..(In tablespoon amounts)

Hard boiled egg...cottage cheese....Ritz cracker with creamed cheese...mashed potatoes...chicken dressing...strawberry ice cream...flavored yogurt...baby jar apple sauce...spice cake....brownie...dry cereal....peanut butter...baked beans...dried apricot..Ritz cracker with steamed garlic.

The second week I added apple...plum...banana...steamed carrot..yogurt smoothies...(I discovered a good combo...hard boiled egg/mustard/cottage cheese...mixed) ..celery...orange...pear...

soup...mini fruit cups...baked yam ...almonds

The mashed potatoes...chicken dressing ...hard boiled egg and cottage cheese seemed to have the most 'staying' Power. Sweet tooth?... Did you know that you can feel satisfied with a 1" square of a good brownie? That really amazed me!

I found a new flavoring to add to your home made mini cups of soup...Fantastic brand spinach/parmeson hummus mix.

If you can't find it in your supermarket...here is their url.

http://www.fantasticfoods.com/

HUMMUS MIX

Just a tiny amount gives so much flavor!

(You will find yourself adding it to lots of things)

If you train your brain...you can accomplish many things...I knew this as I have learned to "fool" my brain with various techniques.

For instance...feeling like you are getting sick? Smile in the mirror 40 times...or just smile 40 times. Your brain will think you are happy and send out many positive things which make you feel better.

If you are totally stressed but can't seem to get rid of your tension...do "fake" sobbing...you know..the kind where your body shakes to the core...and you gasp in short little sobs...soon all of the tension will leave.

When we feel cold, blood vessels near the surface contract and the next step is for the brain to send messages to the muscles to contract as well, so we begin to shiver. This is a very effective way of raising body temperature and can increase metabolism up to a maximum of five times. Maybe we should try "fake" shivering....I would love to have my metabolism increase five times. :)

I also had begun doing "static contraction" exercises a few weeks before I thought of this tablespoon experiment.

The theory is that you only need to do six minutes of exercise once every six days.

(My kind of exercise program)

I will give you a link to learn more about it.

That was also in my brain and I thought...maybe we all have been eating way more food than the body really needs!

I have read about people surviving on sugar cane and nothing else..corn and nothing else..etc;

People have been telling us for ages that we need to exercise very hard three times a week and now this new theory is catching on! Six minutes every six days? KEWOL!

As I surfed the web looking for information on dieting ...calorie counters, etc; I also ran across some interesting items. I will list them for you.

To stay within your allotted calorie frame..look into negative calorie foods..these are fruits and veggies that take more calories to burn than they contain. You can find lots of info on this by typing in

Negative Calorie foods at

http://weightlossinternational.com/newsletter/free-list-of-negative-calorie-foods.html

(Celery for example is a negative calorie food)

If you plan to try this...make your own menu...time frame...limitations etc;

Make it

"YOUR"

Diet!

I took liquid essentials... beta carotene and C while doing this as I always take them.

I have recently discovered that if you mix 2 ounces of flavored yogurt

with one teaspoon of 'Now' Natural certified organic flax seed meal

(I found these two items on the net)

http://www.nowfoods.com/

and

1/2 tsp of Garden of Life Coconut oil

http://www.gardenoflifeusa.com/

You may agree with me that it is the best and most delicious

bowel cleaner money can buy.

It also gave me instant energy!

If I ever again gain a pound over my ideal weight...I plan on doing the five day tablespoon exercise to remind me to take time and relax when eating...chew food thoroughly....appreciate good nutrition...energy...choices and how fortunate I am.

Good luck with all of your endeavors...Kes

Also tiny boxes of fruit drinks...yogurt drinks...etc;

Save the small plastic containers and fill them with cooked chicken...dressing...desserts....any of your home made items.

If you want to make food look really appetizing...put your carrots... celery and other fresh veggies in apocathery jars inside of the fridge.

With this much variety handy..you can make the most nutritious soup in minutes for your main meal.

I usually have a few Fresh gourmet Garden herb Premium croutons with the soup...YUM!

Three apples a day diet plan

http://www.3appleplan.com/

When Registered Dietitian Tammi Flynn of Gold's Gym® in Wenatchee, Washington came up with the 3-Apple-a-Day Plan, the idea was to add more fresh produce to each of her clients' meals with Washington apples. But when results came in from the local Gold's Gym Challenge get in shape contest, 346 people lost a phenomenal 6,000 lbs of fat in just 12 weeks while using The Plan.

It was clear that Tammi had discovered something big. The 3-Apple-a-Day Plan aids in amazing fat loss and is a healthy replacement for high-cost "diet aids". It's the fat loss answer for the entire country.
