Home Made Soup!

Two quarts Tomato juice

(use home made tomato sauce if you have it)

(Or one quart tomato juice and two large cans whole tomato sauce)

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 Tablespoon chives (dried)

1 Tablespoon cilantro (dried)

2 tablespoons Spinach parmeson hummus mix (dried)

1 tablespoon Potato Pizzaz (dried)

1/2 teaspoon Turmeric (powdered)

1/2 cup cooked chicken breast or roast beef or ham

1/4 cup instant potatoes

Pinch of basil (dried)

Salt to taste and a few shakes of tabasco if you like hot sauce.

Note: (Pregnant women should not use Turmeric)

Below are listed choices you may add. If you add all of them you may have to double the above. Each soup you make has its own personality and each one is delicious.

Pick six or more of the following to add to your soup.

1/2 cup broccoli tips

1/8 cup garlic (fresh)

1/2 cup carrots

1/8 cup barley

1 cup cabbage

1/2 cup celery

1/2 cup raw pumpkin seeds

1/2 cup ground flax seeds

1/8 cup roasted sunflower seeds

1/8 cup sesame seeds

1/2 cup onion chopped

1/2 cup aspargus tips

1/2 cup dry noodles

1 cup chopped collard greens

1/2 cup chopped spinach

1 cup dried stuffing mix

1/4 cup garbonzo beans

1/4 cup lima beans

1/2 cup rutabega

1/2 cup sweet potato

1/4 cup red bell peppers

1/4 cup parsley fresh or dried

Three whole allspice

(allspice gives it an old fashioned flavor)

Few shakes of Dill weed

Most veggies are good added to your soup...be creative...use up leftovers...Soup will keep for a week in fridge or buy a sealer and seal for freezer. If you add things write them down...then you can always make your favorite combo.

Never use boulion cubes...they have msg in them. Steaming a pre-barbequed chicken for 50 minutes and saving the water and drippings is a great base to add...(skim any grease off as much as you can and dispose of it) Freeze small amounts of the chicken for future soup additions.

If soup is too rich for your taste...add water in small amounts until it suits you. (you may need more salt to bring out the flavor)

Hint: (if you don't eat meat) Saute your raw or cooked veggies in butter and olive oil before adding to your soup. (This adds lots of new flavors)

Bring soup to boil and then simmer until all the veggies are cooked....(barley...carrots and garbonzo (chick peas) take the longest

Soup always tastes better the second day.

You can always strain your soup if you prefer or if someone is ill and only wants broth.

Some good things to eat with soup: Corn bread... cheese crackers ....Potato bread

Gourmet croutons...dried sesame seed bagels...Bran Muffins.....Rye toast...Rye Krisp....Baking Powder biscuits... etc;

Some things you can add just before serving if you like: Grated Cheese....grated onion...Grated carrots....any grated veggie ....won't cool soup too much and you will have the fresh garden flavor and vitamins.

A tiny dab of butter, cottage cheese or sour cream in center of bowl just before serving will also enhance flavor.

Soup is the best way to get your variety of needed vitamins and minerals each day.

You can make it ahead....freeze it...enjoy it whenever. Once you get into the habit of making soup...there is little food wasted. None of these amounts are written in stone...use your own judgement...add your favorites...don't use anything your taste buds do not like...

Soup will set you free.

BON APPÉTIT

UPDATE:

I am now making a delicious salad with broccoli tips....red seedless grapes.....mandarin oranges.....pineapple chunks, sunflower seeds

and cole slaw dressing. I use just the very end tips of brocolli and save the rest for soup.

(I buy the small individual servings of fruit cups so there is no waste)

I also make a pasta salad with veggie spiral noodles .....a little chicken....onion....and mayo.

You can combine the two salads on your plate for another unique taste.

Read the following from Dr. Christopher when you have time and you will see why I love
