DOG TIPS!

Where To Find A Homeopathic Vet

You can find a homeopathic vet (DVM) by contacting the

National Center for Homeopathy at 703-548-7790.

Or you can consult their Web site by clicking here!

http://www.homeopathic.orgKeep Antifreeze away from Dogs and Pets

As you prep your car for winter, keep in mind that

antifreeze is extremely toxic to pets. Less than a

tablespoon can be deadly for a 10-pound dog. It tastes

sweet to animals, but can quickly send them into kidney

failure. If you suspect your dog has gotten into

antifreeze, get it to a vet immediately. Symptoms of

poisoning include increased thirst and urination,

depression and a wobbly gate.

Keep antifreeze off the floor of the garage or storage

building and cleaned up from all surfaces in the yard or

driveway. Also, ask your neighbors to do the same in case

your dog decides to go on a friendly visit next door.

HOUSEHOLD and KITCHEN TIPS!

Keep your cilantro and parsley fresh longer by placing the stems in a

cup of water, covering the leaves with a plastic baggy, and placing it

in the fridge.

When making patties, place the meat between two pieces of plastic wrap

or a baggie, and press the meat into a round shape. No greasy mess on

the hands or under the nails, and no bloody smell.

If you are on a tight budget... re-use the oil used for frying. Run the cooled oil

through a coffee filter. It comes in handy, and makes it last a lot

longer.

Don't leave leftovers in the box you bring them home in. You can't

see the food and it doesn't keep very long. Transfer the food to a

bowl or plate and cover with see-thru plastic wrap. If you can see it

you (or someone else) will be more likely to eat it, and you won't

have to throw it away later.

For cutting cakes when presentation matters, use dental floss. Pull

out a long strand, about 8 inches longer than your cake. Hold taunt

between your hands, cut with floss where you want your slices to be.

When you reach the bottom of cake with each slice, pull the floss out

one side. Slicing will be quick and uniform. Your cake will look

beautiful and your friends will be so impressed!

If you have excess herbs from your garden and don't know what to do

with them, dry or freeze them for future use. To dry, place on

parchment lined cookie sheet in 250F (120C) oven until dry and then

cool and store in tightly sealed glass jar. To freeze place

tablespoon size portions into ice trays and fill with water, freeze

and store in zip lock bags for later use. Just place a cube into

recipe and you have your herbs.

My husband and I buy in large quantities and store. Our warehouse

store has the best quality ground beef sold in six pound packages. I

use 1-quart, freezer zip-type bags and fill each one with 1 pound of

meat. I flatten it and try to get as much of the air out as possible.

I flatten it with a rolling pin, but my big strong husband just uses

his hands. The packages of meat stack in the freezer and the best

part is, they thaw in a very short period of time. The heavy duty

freezer bag keeps the meat fresh for a long time.

I have two young boys close in age and I am constantly cutting up food

to bite-size pieces. After struggling with a knife and fork for some

time I came up with this idea: I lay the food down and run across it a

few times with a sharp pizza cutter - very quick and less fight. It

works with just about everything.

I just recently came to the realization that the plastic cap from

large squeezable ketchup bottles is a perfect fit for most vegetable

oils sold in plastic bottles. Voila! A little squirt and no more

drippy mess!

If you have an old recipe that calls for soft or cake flour and don't

want to purchase a whole bag, you can make it by sifting together 2

parts cornstarch and 1 part all-purpose flour.

To easily remove corn silk: dampen a toothbrush and brush downward on

the cob of corn. Every strand will come off.

A good way to keep whole chilies fresh is to put them in an airtight

bag and freeze them. Then you simply remove them as you need them.

When frozen, they are also much easier to slice (particularly the

small Asian chilies). The best bit though is that you have less of a

problem with getting the 'juice' (capsaicin) on your fingers which can

burn like heck if you rub your eyes!

When your bananas start to get very brown, rather than throwing them

away, toss them in the freezer. When you want to make banana bread,

take 3-4 bananas out and let them defrost on the counter before adding

to the recipe.

Yummy Homemade Butter

Here's a fun, incredibly simple way for kids to help with

holiday meal preparations. Pour some heavy whipping cream

into a jar, and hand it to your kids. All they have to do

is shake the jar and pretty soon the cream will turn into

the best butter you've ever spread on a roll. To establish

a rhythm, begin the chant "Shake, shake, shake, butter we

will make."

Note: You should use a plastic jar when children are

involved. Plastic peanut butter jars work well for this

purpose.

Frost-Free Car Windows

If you don't have a garage and you live in an area where

houses are relatively close together, park your car

overnight between your and your neighbor's houses. If you

do, your car has a better chance of being frost-free in the

morning than if you leave it out in the open.

New Uses for 'Junk' Envelopes

Lots of junk mail includes return envelopes that are rarely

used. Rather than recycle these envelopes, save them.

They're perfect for sending notes to school, sending money

for the bake sale, grocery lists, or many other uses that

don't require a "good" envelope. Don't send your junk

envelope in the mail, though, even with a new stamp. Most

"junk" envelopes include return addresses, bar codes, and

prepaid indicias (that is, the box in the stamp area) that

won't "work" for individuals (they're for bulk mail).

Facial Care

You need to rinse your face thirty times

wash three times and rinse thirty...

it helps to moisturize the face after you break the oil barrier with soap
