I have been complaining to anyone who will listen about

how upset I am that we do not have seat belts on our school buses, for many years.

See link below from 1998

I wasn't satisfied with his answer then, and I still am not satisfied!

Why isn't something being done?

There are 585,000 school buses in our nation. It would cost $4,000 to put seat belts in each new bus built.

Wouldn't it be wise to at LEAST start putting them in the NEW buses being built each day?

Is there ever going to be a concerned public who will complain enough to get this done?

As each accident, takes away more of our precious children, there is a short flurry about how it really would be a good idea to have seat belts, but it dies down in a few days.

YET, the rules about buckling your children safely in cars get stronger and more costly every day. I think that is great, but why is it okay for our children to fly around the huge bus if there is an accident?

I think our bus drivers have enough to deal with, traffic, noise, children throwing things around on buses. If the children were securely buckled in, I think they would be better behaved and not distracting the driver as much.

Another bonus!

There ARE seat belts on buses in four states

Seat belts on buses......Family Education

http://life.familyeducation.com/school/safety/36260.html

There are a lot of rules concerning how everyone should drive when approaching a school bus, but look around you. How many of you who are on the road for any length of time each day don't see or experience a near accident often? Since the onset of cell phones, text messaging, etc; while driving, I would say the chances of an accident have risen considerably. Then we have those who are in a rush because they can't get started on time, those using drugs, those abusing alcohol, those not getting enough sleep, the list goes on!!

Our children are out there taking their chances, without the safety of a mere seat belt to help them.

I do not believe children are safer without them.

Many think it isn't cost effective to put belts in buses.

Take time to go to the links below and see what YOUthink.

The statistics DO seem low...UNLESS it is YOUR child.

At least 6 killed as bus plunges off Atlanta ramp

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17416735/

23.5 million elementary and secondary school children ride school buses daily throughout the United States, twice a day. Many of those school buses do not have restraint systems or seatbelts. 12,000 of those children are injured each year in school bus accidents. Although the majority of the injuries are minor, some are catastrophic and as many as 11 children a year die as a result of a school bus accident.

Recent school bus accidents revive calls for seat belts

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-05-09-school-bus-crashes_x.htm

The cause of the accident, the latest in a series of fatal crashes involving a school buses, is under investigation. But the accidents have renewed calls to put seat belts on the nation's 585,000 school buses.

Seat belts would save about one life a year, Martin says. Installing seatbelts similar to those in cars would add about $4,000 to the $80,000-$95,000 cost of a new 66-seat bus.

Attention!

I have had over ONE MILLION visitors to this, My AOL Site in the last nine years.

The counter kept reverting back to zero, but I kept my own records each week.

I have now attached my two sites together under one counter starting at 2000.

This is March 15, 2007.

I hope I will not have any more trouble with counters.

Sincerely, Kesti
