 Caution

Check out an update caution at bottom of page!

Adverse effects can be seen in as many as 25% of patients. Some side

effects seen are agitation, fatigue, itching, and increase in weight.

I listen to Dr Dean Edell on radio. He claims St Johns Wort causes cataracts.

While taking St John's Wort patients should be extra careful when

outdoors due to the potential for increased photosensitivity. It is a

good idea to stay out of the sun as much as possible, and/ or wear

sunscreen.

You should not use St John's Wort if you are taking prescription

antidepressants.

You should consult your physician before using this product.

St Johns wort

hey ladies, i found it! And it was an error. Regarding Contraindications (St. John's Wort), it is NOT SSSI, but SSRI which stands for Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors. Also, i have found another caution with regard to St. John's Wort:

 What About Photosensitivity?

There is considerable evidence that St. John's Wort can cause severe photosensitivity in animals grazing extensively on the plant. In fact, the term "hypericism" has been used to describe a skin disease found in animals who graze on large quantities of St. John's Wort. Because of the possibility of photosensitivity,

it is often recommended that individuals, especially those with fair skin, avoid exposure to strong sunlight and other sources of ultraviolet light when using St. John's Wort. However, while this recommendation may be appropriate, it must be pointed out that the therapeutic dosage of 2.7 mg hypericin per day is about 30 to 50 times below the level required to produce phototoxicity in most people. Reports of photosensitivity in humans have been very rare.

I got this information from a pamphlet written by a Dr. Michael T. Murray, ND. He is a graduate, faculty member, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington. In addition to maintaining a private medical practice, Dr. Murray is an accomplished writer, educator, and lecturer. He is the author of over 20 books, including the co-author of the bestseller Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, and is medical editor of the Natural Medicine Journal.

CAUTION!!!

Update on St. John's Wort that I heard on WABC Radio News, May 1, 2000 at 12 p.m. est:

St. John's Wort speeds up the rate at which the body eliminates drugs thereby lessening the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and some heart and cancer medications.

Attention!

I have had over ONE MILLION visitors to this, My AOL Site in the last nine years.

The counter kept reverting back to zero, but I kept my own records each week.

I have now attached my two sites together under one counter starting at 2000.

This is March 15, 2007.

I hope I will not have any more trouble with counters. Sincerely, Kesti
