I have been online for two and one half years and have been observing a lot of what goes on in chat rooms. Many people are unaware of how things work on computers and on AOL. If a person wanted to "set you or your children up" there are ways to fool even a cautious person. It is possible for someone to hang around one chat room until he is known by all of the regular visitors. This person could have two computers..and two seperate phone lines.
He could be signed on to AOL under two seperate names. This would give him two account names and 8 other names...You all know that you can change all but account names as many times as you want to. THE SCAM: This person hangs in chat room as a Man under say the name of SAMGuy...on his other computer he is in the same chat room under the name...CuteGRL....as time goes on..SamGuy pretends to be planning on meeting CuteGrl...and they chat about the upcoming meeting. CuteGrl does in fact meet SamGuy and comes back into chat saying what a nice guy he is and what a worderful time they had. Other girls in the room that like SamGuy think: Hey...Cutegrl saw him and thinks he is nice so maybe I should go out with him. Are you getting the picture? This is a scam that can make you have faith in something that doesn't exist. Those who prey on children and women...have NO ethics...do not give out your phone number....location or any personal information online. To do so is very foolish. If you know of someone who did and met someone nice...just consider her very lucky.. (to be alive)...I think trusting people online is a dangerous thing to do.
This is another scenario....say that you meet with some friends from a chat room and all goes well..
A chat room is like a small town...so you begin talking about what fun you had when you got together...this is a perfect opportunity for a man to pretend he is a female and began getting acquainted with you in order for you to tell him the addresses of your friends...posing as a woman who just wants to join your little get togethers...you will inadvertantly put all of your group in dangerif you reveal any information...
Prisoners can call people from prison and stalk them. Just because someone thinks up a fool proof scam...is no reason for you to become ensnared. If you are in a room long enough people can make quite a profile on you. If you tell where you work...what kind of car you drive...how many children you have...what you look like..some even send their picture...Geez Guyz!!!! they can narrow down the area to find you in person.... Recently in a chat room I hang out in..they planned a group get together...the time date and place was mentioned many times. Those who were going said so in chat. If anyone knows their names...location ....phone number...they would know exactly when they will be away from home for three days. (This leaves their valubles and children if a sitter is hired...sitting ducks as a break in is possible)
There is a place on the web that gives you a map to someones house unless their phone is unlisted. It is easy for someone who is thinking to hurt or steal from you to find out information. If someone stalks you online...always block them from your mail and buddy list...this causes them to have to keep changing their name..never argue or talk to them...they love it...If someone says..hey I am...(Whomever) I am just under my new name....tell them to send new name in e-mail. Many people who have numbers behind their name will easily be impersonated. None of us have time to remember all of those numbers...Even in chat..they can fool you ...The trick there is to have all of the people on your buddy list or on a handy notepad...If something seems different...check the name and numbers..if it is wrong...call them on it in chat...expose those who try to impersonate. Don't think because you have chatted with someone for years that it makes it safe. Those who do this sort of think love the cat and mouse game...the longer it takes...the more they get into it...they are very very sick people. THIS IS ALL THEY DO ONLINE..EVERY DAY....THEY ARE DOING IT TO MANY AT THE SAME TIME... THEY THINK THEY CAN SUCKER YOU INTO
SENDING THEM MONEY!!!! DON'T FALL FOR IT. IN THIS COUNTRY
WE HAVE AGENCIES FOR THIS PURPOSE IF SOMEONE IS TRULY NEEDY.

We all have a right to be on the net....and dont feel bad if they have gotten to you...
I am a very strong person and they got ME a little off balance for a few days.
But THEN they made a fatal error. They became Greedy. They were having so
much fun they got me to come back into a chat I had given up on even tho
I loved it and thought I was helping a lot of people with health problems.
Yes...they were going to publicly humiliate me!!!
BIG BIG MISTAKE!!!
While I was helping someone who was asking for herbal advice...and distracted....two of them started a barrage of disgusting in room comments
which sounded like a some kind of weird Porn with me as the target. The other one then laughed and said...You are being cybered and you don't even know it!!!
When she had finished laughing she began to pretend to attack the one who had been cybering me.... with very vulgar comments as if she were defending me.
I told them both I knew they were just doing another scam .
At that point...so
much hate broke loose from one of them that it was unbelievable. The room had 23 people in it and
most were just stunned watching. I stood my ground as she tried to turn the room
against me.. Can you believe this.??..In a Holistic Health Chat ROOM?????
Needless to say....I am NOT leaving. I am telling you this so when it happens to you
You won't run and hide. You won't feel "alone".
Turn them into AOL when they speak vulgar language to you. If you feel someone is
coming at you with a lot of different names...this is harrassment. Keep a record of the
names..AOL knows them all!!! If you give them a list and it is one or several persons.
pretending to be different people.
They will be TOSED! Good Riddance!
Stalkers are not tolerated on AOL!!

Helpful Computer Hints
Always use combos in passwords....what I mean is letters and numbers.
There is a program that actually lets people type in your name and then
it runs every word there is to see if they will get a match...the only way around it is to add several numbers...such as TOP123 ...You can't be too
careful. I always change my password befores signing offline if I have had
any IMs or have been surfing the net....
This is a good habit to cultivate. You will sleep better.

Mac Note Pad
If you have a Mac and you don't use your note pad a lot...you don't know what you are missing. It has endless pages...It is a quick way to save things from your desktop that you may need while online or to send in mail. If you have something in your letter (e-mail) that you want to save...just highlight it and slide it off..it will appear complete as a text clipping on your desktop. This works with chat messages you want to keep and also with infomation in IMS. A lot easier than scrolling thru an entire chat to find a paragraph that you want. You can save all IMs and Chats by going under Edit and clicking on save. A note will come up asking you where you want to save it. I put everything on my desktop and sort it offline. It goes a lot faster than opening folders.

Mass open mail
You can mass open your mail by highlighting all the letters you want to read....Hold down shift key as you slide the mouse over the letters..then click READ at the bottom of your mail. They will all open.

Sending Pictures
When you send pictures. e-mail..send them at 72 dpi so they will load fast.
You only need the higher dpi if you want better prints when you print them out.
Computer owners are impatient and don't like long downloads.
Soon our computers will be BILLIONS of times faster because they have
invented a tiny transistor that can do it. I can't wait!!!!

PHOTOSHOP
If you are interested in making beautiful things with your computer..
let me suggest Adobe PhotoShop 5.0
As you learn it...you will feel so fulfilled even if you can't draw a stick man.
If you have anything you want to say...Learn how to make web pages...it seems hard at first but like everything..once you learn it is easy and fun.
I have a Mac so I use PageMill. It has a read me file that will explain..
also books to buy if you need one.
You will receive 10 Mb of free space on AOL. another 12 if you post
your pages with them.
Instead of sending out letters with infomation you can put it on a page like this and send the link. Saves time and helps the mail move faster.
For 20 dollars you can get an animation maker and make your own
moving gifs. It is sooooo much fun.
These programs are an investment in you and your family's future.
There is a big need for people with Graphic skills....look in any newspaper.

When you are learning any new program....I find it helpful to take notes..
This will help you remember and instead of going thru the pages again
you just refer to your own notes which will be easier to understand since
they are in your own words.

Pictures in e-mail
Putting a picture on a background in your e-mail is easy...just pick one and click....It will re-size it automatically. I don't send too many as it takes extra time to load and I feel everyone is busy. I am always at least 200 letters behind in my mail.

Computer care:
You should clean your mouse ball with a damp cloth and dust the little
ring inside to get it working smoothly. I had a lot of mouse trouble so I
bought a Kesnington Turbo Mouse...It has four side buttons. I can't use a regular mouse anymore...it would drive me nuts!.
Clean your monitor often..it gathers lots of stuff.
Tip your keyboard upside down and tap it a few times on the bottom.
You may be surprised at what comes out.
Be careful not to disconnect the mouse from the keyboard if the computer is on.
There are fans inside of your computer...they pull in dust...the cover should be removed periodically and the dust sucked out. Smoking
around your computer is a bad idea..all of that smoke is being pulled in and settling on the components.

CD Burners
CD Burners or copiers.
This is such a good thing to have. Don't be afraid of them. They are sooooooo easy to use. You get a program with them..Mine is called toast
and it is just as easy to put the info on a CD as it is to put toast in the toaster. You just drop your files in this box on your screen...Most people think that they are sooooo expensive...the CDS...and think you have to have everything lined up in order to fill it up during one session.
NOT SO!!! You can put them in as seperate sessions until you fill it up.
All you have to do is to remember to hit write session instead of write disc!!!!
(The re-writable CDs are very expensive but I don't know who would need them except Newspapers and such as they are setting up new pages every day....)
You can get CDS for as little as one dollar each and they hold 650 MBs
YES!!! Megabytes!!!!! of information...YAY!!!! I love them!!!!

When you put new ink in your printer be sure and follow the directions for aligning them...It is easy to do and really helps the quality of your prints.

Surge Protectors
I have something about surge protectors on another page..but I am going to put it here too. Don't trust them!!! Have them but if you are home and can unplug when a storm is approaching...do so!!! Pull out your phone modem too. A hard drive is a terrible thing to burn up. It is rare but it can happen...Insurance papers are a bore to fill out. Plus you know you don't put things on zips ...floppy's and Cd's like you should..now do you?

Close IMS
If you want a quick IM close or open do this:
Click on send IM and type in the name box...$IM_off ....then click where it says available....a box will come up saying you are no longer receiving instant messages....To turn them back on ...type in $IM_on and click available...it will say you are now accepting IMS.

Forwarding Mail!!
Guyz!!!!!! if you are forwarding something with long... long ... mail headings that no one wants to read....first copy and paste it into a letter to yourself...delete all of the junk...mail it..open it and then forward it to your list of friends..They will love you for it. Scrolling and waiting is such a drag...I think that is why I am so behind on my mail!!!!!!

Chain Letters...Please Stop them!!!
This is worth reading and saving.
1. Big companies don't do business via chain letter. Bill Gates is not
giving you $1000, and Disney is not giving you a free vacation. Honda isn't
going to give you a new car to help their American marketing efforts. There
is no baby food company issuing class-action checks. Microsoft and AOL have
not merged and they are not going to send you a dollar for everyone you
forward the message to and two dollars for everyone that *they* forward it
to. You can relax; there is no need to pass it on "just in case it's true".
Furthermore, just because someone said in the message, four generations
back, that "we checked it out and it's legit", does not actually make it
true.
2. There is no kidney theft ring in New Orleans. No one is waking up in a
bathtub full of ice, even if a friend of a friend swears it happened to

5. There is no "Good Times" virus. In fact, you should never, ever, ever
forward any email containing any virus warning unless you first confirm it
through an actual site of an actual company that actually deals with
viruses. Try: http://www.norton.com And you cannot get a virus from a
flashing IM or email, you have to download it....ya know, like, a FILE!
6. If your cc: list is regularly longer than the actual content of your
message, you probably already have it stored in your old 8088, Franklin, or
Adam computer.
7. If you still absolutely MUST forward that 10th-generation message from a
friend, at least have the decency to trim the eight miles of headers showing
everyone else who's received it over the last 6 months. It sure wouldn't
hurt to get rid of all the ">" or << that begin each line. Besides, if it
has gone around that many times we've probably already seen it anyway. Also,
don't send text as attachments. It leads to "Box in a box in a box
syndrome."
8. Craig Shergold (or Sherwood, or Sherman, etc.) in England is not dying of
cancer or anything else at this time and would like everyone to stop sending
him their business cards. He apparently is also no longer a "little boy"
either.
9. The "Make a Wish" foundation is a real organization doing fine work, but
they have had to establish a special toll free hot line in response to the
large number of Internet hoaxes using their good name and reputation. It is
distracting them from the important work they do.
10. If you are one of those insufferable idiots who forwards anything that
promises "something bad will happen if you don't", too late...you're lost
cause already! And if you like something and want to forward it, trim off
the "Forward this to..." section at the bottom. I'll forward it if I like
it, but I won't send it back to you. You should know me well enough to
figure out if I'm a "friend for life," and it's not national friendship
week.
11. The CEO Proctor & Gamble has NEVER been a guest on any of the TV talk
shows to proclaim P&G's allegiance to Satan...even Sally Jesse's (see for
yourself at: http://www.sallyjr.com/faq.html). All the disclaimers to this
fact are posted on the various shows web sites. This is one of the longest
running hoaxes anywhere...way before email was ever known by most people.
Proctor & Gamble is NOT a satanic organization, although I'm sure Satan sure is smiling over all
the prolific emails that says it is, and probably says thanks to all the
'lost souls' who pass this garbage on!
12. I am not even gonna touch the red spiders in the commode, the hypodermic
needles in the theater seats, the car headlights/gang hoax, etc, etc,
etc.... (But note that the more we spread this kind of thing around, the
better our chances of giving gang members ideas....) Bottom Line...
composing e-mail or posting something on the Net is as easy as writing on
the walls of a public restroom. Don't automatically believe it until it's
proven false...ASSUME it's false, unless there is proof that it's true.

WAVS IN CHAT
When you receive an email with a wav in it, the email will have a little button at the bottom of it that says Download Now and one for download later. Once you click this button to download, an email attachment warning window from AOL's neighborhood watch will come up. If you do want to download, click on the "yes" button. After clicking on the "yes" button the download manager window will come up. At the top of the window, in the area that says "save in", click on the arrow to the right of that little section. You may have to click on C:\, and then click on America Online 4.0a (Of course the version will vary, and may look different). Do not save it in download, more than likely, the wav will not play in download. After the wav is loaded a little counter box will come up and you will hear "File's done". There is a counter that will look like this with numbers: 00:02:04. If the number shows up as zeros, it may mean that the wav is compressed or of a different format. The zeros means that it won't play immediately after download, but may still play in chat. Depends on the format, and it's hard to say for sure whether it will or not. Sometimes, the wav may be incomplete or damanged. When the wav is loaded, you can go to the chat room, and type in the command like this {S welcome Brackett first: {Then Capital "S" : {S Then a space Then the name of the wav {S welcome On AOL 4.0 and above, a lower case "s" will work, but remember that AOL 3.0 requires a capital "S" before it will work. Also, if you are sending to a friend that has a Macintosh computer, the command will be a little longer like this: {S welcome.wav} That's all there is to it. Happy listening DonnaCarr1 {S wavqueen

Attention!
I have had over ONE MILLION visitors to this, My AOL Site in the last nine years.
The counter kept reverting back to zero, but I kept my own records each week.
